about Sylvia Plester-Silk
Welcome to a new way of looking at your life! My name is Sylvia Plester-Silk and I too was challenged to look at my life and made the ultimate choice to move towards healing myself. Let me share my story with you.
I grew up in Rural Ontario on a farm, the youngest child of 14 to older parents. From the time I was small, I was an advocate for individuals who were not being treated respectfully. Some might call me small but mighty at that time in my life. Having 13 older siblings, I often felt that the odds were against me, that I had more than two parents, as they often tried to correct my behaviour by disciplining me.
In my early 20’s my father had a heart attack and I went into crisis. At that time, I had a lot of issues with him and I wanted to resolve them before he left this world. So I enrolled myself in therapy. The initial part was challenging until I found the therapist that I felt I could open up to and share my issues with. My search for the ideal therapist was important because I knew she would become my primary support in my life. In fact, I learned firsthand the value of having my own advocate to be treated fairly for the first time ever. With her help, I learned to look at my emotions and to own them, honour them and feel them and I experienced a new freedom as a result of my work with her. To this day, I am very grateful to Trish for all her caring, wisdom and support.
My life went along quite well after that; my relationship with my partner improved and I continued to need to grow and expand my knowledge base and my personal insights. In the mid 1990’s I had the good fortune to meet a lovely woman who did Therapeutic Touch, and despite my skepticism about this thing called “energy work”, I allowed her to work on me and my body and was really pleased with the results. I quickly moved from being a skeptic to being very curious!
This then catapulted me into another great growth spurt where I began to study energy work. I also saw energy therapists to assist with my own healing and found that I experienced even greater freedom than the counselling offered. The more I learned and experienced with energy work, the more I shifted and softened and got in touch with my more gentle side. Within a few years, I decided that I too, wanted to open a healing practice where individuals could heal without years and years of therapy. In fact, I began to realize that our bodies have the inherent ability to heal without pain and struggle.
By the late 1990’s I was realizing that my career in social work was limited, that I no longer believed that I was giving the best service available to my clients, so I began to integrate my energy work with my private therapy clients. They began to see improvements and have breakthroughs in their lives at a faster pace then talk therapy could enable.
Today I continue to value my own expansion and learning and it is from this perspective that I invite my clients to work through their challenges with me. As I work with my clients, I maintain a holistic viewpoint – one of the whole person and not just the part that’s in immediate pain. At the same time, I recognize the value of the individual as separate from their pain and issues. I help my clients experience emotional cleansing, mental freedom, physical healing and to achieve spiritual success.
I would like to invite you on a path of inner healing so that you may also experience the freedom of recovery!
